St. Mark’s Guitar Class Overview
This class is intended to give students an introduction to the basics of playing the guitar. They will learn correct posture and technique, the fundamentals of reading music, and how to play as a group. Key concepts will be introduced such as developing the "language" of basic guitar chord shapes and the ability to change between those chords effectively. Students will then learn to play simple melodies and chords, and will receive an introduction to music history as well. Guitar student’s confidence is fostered to increase their musical potential. Student’s concentration and memory will be improved by learning to read guitar tabs and creating chord shapes. Additionally, guitar improves hand coordination, sight-reading and listening skills.
Students must bring an acoustic classical guitar (nylon strings – not steel), a footstool, and guitar pick.
